A Good Night's Sleep - What your Sleeping Position Says About Your Personality

A recent poll done by Sealy on Facebook triggered my interest in sleeping positions. A study analyzing common sleeping positions found that each position is actually linked to a particular personality type.

According to the research done by sleep specialist, Chris Idzijowski, PhD, if you curl up in the fetal position when you sleep, you may be tough on the outside and soft on the inside. If you sleep in the "log" position you are typically easy going, sociable, and want to run with the A-list crowd.

People who sleep with both arms out in front (Yearner) can be suspicious and cynical. Someone who sleeps on their back with both arms up around the pillow (Starfish) make good friends and are always ready to listen and offer help.

That leaves the Soldier and Freefaller. The study found that the Soldier position sleeper is associated with being quiet and reserved and having very high standards.  And the Freefaller position sleeper tends to feel anxious about getting tasks done, is sensitive and dislikes criticism.

One important factor is clear, "If you sleep in a bad position, you're more likely to be grumpy the next day" states Dr. Idzijowski.

I think we can all agree, no matter your sleep position, an investment in a great quality mattress and boxspring should be at the top of your list. At Davids we offer a well-chosen line-up of Sealy and Stearns & Foster products to fit your needs and a staff ready to help you find your "Goldilocks" bed.

Treat yourself well. Come to Davids to experience the most informative and enjoyable mattress shopping you will find anywhere.

structural design of the furnishings.

What a stunning, yet relaxed Master Suite.

As with any color there are many shades of white so it can present a challenge in designing a space. Whites can reflect and give off hues and hints of color. Work with your interior designer to hone in on "your" perfect white.

So does your white story come with a twist or sprinkles? Or is it sophisticated-ly vanilla?

Are You in The Mood? - Moody Room Design

Moody, it's a style that embraces you as soon as you walk into the room. A moody room is not meant to be dark and dreary. With the right wall color it is stunningly dramatic, yet livable.

But this design style doesn't stop at the selection of the right wall color. As with all room design, selecting the right furnishings can create the room of your dreams. Another element in this design that is extremely important is the right lighting.

A Moody room just doesn't happen. It takes an exceptionally-talented interior designer to build a beautiful moody room. You will prevent mistakes by partnering with this kind of talent for your moody space.

Where is a moody space appropriate in our home? Anywhere! Even a hallway!

And a moody space doesn't require that the wall color be grey. Although it is a great choice. There are beautiful palettes of "moody" aubergines, teals, greens and the like, that are winners for this look.

Are you in the mood for a dramatic moody space in your home?

Reflection No. 1 - Federal-Style Bulls Eye Mirror

There is something stunning about the appreciation of history in design when one's personal style is part of the mix. For it was one's personal style that inspired the originator's creativity. Welcome the Federal-style bulls eye mirror. What a nod to personal style an early XVIII Century fashionable mirror can make!

If you understand the importance of your style in your home, the Federal-style bulls eye mirror doesn't have to be tucked away in a stodgy interior. And you don't have to live in a Federal-style home. For it's the use of beautiful things in an unexpected interpretation that moves a special piece to a new level of appreciation.

Don't shy away from heritage because you think it's wrong to use it in an unorthodox way, in your home. Show your designer those pieces you treasure, share your wish list even if you don't think it possible to add to your home, and most importantly visit your designer with an open mind. A Federal-style bulls eye mirror doesn't just end up in a room by accident.

We would be remiss if we didn't address authentic appreciation for history in design, in one manner that matters, when talking about the Federal-style bulls eye mirror. That authenticity is keeping the reverence of the finish. Finishing pieces that give a nod to history in design in high lacquer paint finishes is something we love. In the case of the Federal-style bulls eye mirror...not so much.

Mirror Design Tip: A mirror's placement is so important. Any mirror. A truly talented designer always considers the reflection.

Be inspired to show your love for history, your style!

After all history does truly repeat itself. Let's build a beautiful room together.

Design Craving No. 1 - Wallpapers That Will Have You Craving an Accent Wall

So this design craving is pretty easy to understand. These wallpaper designs are making us crave an accent wall!

An accent wall isn't just for any room. Which wall is best as an accent wall will be a logical choice in the juxtaposition of the other walls in the space. What are the architectural features in the room? Do they lend themselves to a wall treatment that highlights this feature? Will that fireplace be even more dramatic if treated as an accent wall?

Other factors to consider in treating a wall as an accent wall is perhaps the special piece of furniture that will be on a certain wall. Like that beautifully carved chest or console and the dramatic mirror that will hang above it. Or it might be where the stunning bed will be in the master suite.

And a long hallway is given warmth and interest simply by treating the end wall as an accent wall. This would be a great application for warmer hues to pull the end wall towards the eye.

An accent wall is also a great way to introduce a dramatic wallpaper that doesn't take over the design of the room, rather creates a balance between other hues and textures in the space. Keep in mind that if the wall treatment is dramatic the things hung on this wall become much more selective. Otherwise they just disappear.

An accent wall treatment is part of the layering in of texture, warmth or coolness, artful drama, and can be the element that pulls the space together.

The accent wall treatment can provide movement so that the room's design doesn't appear stagnant. Geometric patterns are smashing when working towards this effect.

Careful consideration to the accessorizing of an accent wall is vital. And if wall accents such as artwork, sculptures, and mirrors are found to be the perfect accompaniment; how it is installed can make or break the marrying of these elements. For example does the mirror work best propped, hung on a wire that tilts the mirror's top into the room, or does it need to be suspended from the ceiling slightly away from the accent wall's treatment?

Have fun experimenting with color combinations, enlarged designs, texture combinations, and organic vibes when finalizing your accent wall treatment.

An accent wall can be the best thing you will do for your space. But use caution, it can go horribly wrong if you don't choose wisely. As with any room design, it is best to partner with your interior designer to achieve the best results.

Your Davids Furniture and Interiors personal interior designer is available to address whether your space is craving an accent wall! www.davidsfurniture.com
